Myanmar delegation discusses whistleblower protection bill at ASEAN-PAC Meeting

U Kyaw Soe Lin, a member of Myanmar's Anti-Corruption Commission, announced that a Whistleblower Protection Bill is currently being drafted. This was revealed during the 20th ASEAN Parties Against Corruption (ASEAN-PAC) meeting held in Bali, Indonesia, from December 2 to 5. The Myanmar delegation, led by U Kyaw Soe Lin, participated in the event.

The meeting opened with speeches by H.E. Khamphan Phommathath, Chairman of the Lao Government's Investigative Authority, and H.E. Alexander Marwata of Indonesia's Anti-Corruption Commission. Participants reviewed and approved the minutes of the 19th meeting, discussed the implementation of the 2023–2025 action plan, and outlined the formulation of the 2026–2028 action plan. Plans for the 21st ASEAN-PAC meeting, to be hosted by Malaysia, were also confirmed. Member countries explored the theme "Promoting Cooperation Through Technological Innovation in the Fight Against Corruption."*

The Myanmar delegation highlighted its initiatives to combat corruption, including leveraging technology for more effective anti-corruption measures, increasing public awareness, and encouraging public participation. They discussed the formation of Corruption Prevention Units (CPU) in cooperation with regional and state governments, the implementation of the Public Feedback Program (PFP), and efforts to recover national assets through targeted investigations. Additionally, the delegation shared updates on the drafting of the Whistleblower Protection Bill and emphasized the importance of international cooperation in these efforts.
