The Myanmar Embassy in Singapore has announced that Myanmr nationals holding PV passports and working in Singapore will need to convert their PV passports to PJ passports if they wish to temporarily return to Myanmar. This decision comes in response to challenges faced by these workers in obtaining income tax documents and OWIC cards at Yangon International Airport when departing Singapore.
The embassy has urged those who wish to convert their passports to ensure they have a return flight ticket, a valid work permit, passport, and an employer's permission letter at least two weeks in advance. For urgent matters such as funerals, individuals can apply in person at the embassy between 9:30 am and 11:00 am.
Additionally, the embassy recommended that PV passport holders apply for conversion to PJ passports within 14 months of their expiry date to avoid delays and unnecessary costs. Over 200,000 Myanmar nationals are employed in Singapore across various sectors, including food processing, factories, and service industries.
