An employee of the Customs Department and his wife were shot on the afternoon of December 30 in Mayenchaung village, Kyaikhto Township, Mon State.

When U Than Lwin, an employee of the Customs Department, was at home with his wife Daw Myint Myint Khaing and niece Ma Shwe Thiri Khin, two men from Mayenchaung village arrived on a motorcycle and they said that they wanted to buy a satellite dish. So, Shwe Thiri Khin opened the door.

When Shwe Thiri Khin went to the back of the house, she heard about seven gunshots and she entered the house and found U Than Lwin and his wife Daw Myint Myint Khaing lying down with gunshot wounds. Later, they asked for help from the nearby villagers. The two victims were sent to the Kyiakhto People’s Hospital.

U Than Lwin had been wounded in the right thigh, abdomen, back, and right knee and his wife also had been wounded in the chin and left side of the head.

"It is known that Than Lwin's injuries are serious and Myint Myint Khaing's injury is nothing to worry about. Both of them are receiving medical treatment at the public hospital in Kyaiktha Township," said a source close to the security forces.

U Than Lwin is a customs staff who works at the Mayenchaung Checkpoint situated on the Yangon-Mawlamyaing road, say the locals.
