Arrangements are being made to pay the fare by adding the application to the phone and scanning the QR Code of Yangon Payment System (YPS), said Joint Secretary U Lyan Cin Mang of Yangon Region Transport Committee (YRTC) on December 13.
To pay the fare with the QR Code, the passengers must use the MPyps Plus Application from the Google Play Store and scan the YPS QR Code on the bus to pay the fare. Plans are being made to start using the system by the end of this year and early January, he said.
"We will do it with a QR Code application. The passengers can use that instead of the current YPS card. We want to be able to use it at the end of this year and at the beginning of January. The main thing is to be able to use YPS card and the application on the smartphone using a QR code. The passengers have to add the money in advance in the application. The central bank of Myanmar has already agreed to do that. Asia Starmar Transport Intelligent Co., Ltd has been approved by word. It will be announced as soon as the approval is come out. The name of the application has also been released. Its name is MPyps Plus Application," U Lyan Cin Mang said.
He added that there will be a certain amount of time when scanning the YPS QR Code on the YBS bus.
"Now there is already a QR code under the machine that cuts money in the car with the YPS card. If you use this application, you don't need to buy YPS card separately. It definitely needs to be registered. As soon as the passengers got into the bus, they can read the screen with the QR Code just like the YPS Card. It can be used offline. It will not take long to get screening. But we need to give a certain amount of time. In that case, you will have to use both the YPS card and the application. Those who want to use the YPS card can continue to use the card on their own. Those who have not yet made the YPS card can add the application to their phone and pay for the fare. They don't need to buy the YPS card anymore," U Lyan Cin Mang said.
He said that by using the YPS card that is currently being used and the application that is planned to be used soon, the payment systems will be successful and benefit the public and companies.
Currently, the payment system with YPS card is installed in 3,580 vehicles in 18 bus lines like YUBT, YUPC and Bandoola and will continue to be installed. About 400,000 YPS cards have been distributed to the public, and more than 50 percent of them are being used. In Yangon, over 3,600 vehicles from 131 YBS bus lines transport about 1.5 million commuters every day.
