Nearly 350,000 students are enrolled in basic education schools across Mon State for the 2026–2027 academic year, according to sources close to the State Education Office.

As of June 1, a total of 348,205 students had been enrolled. This includes 229,703 primary, 83,559 middle, and 21,188 high school students in government basic education schools. In addition, monastic education schools recorded 3,280 primary and 743 middle school students, while private schools enrolled 5,135 primary, 2,209 middle, and 2,388 high school students.

A source close to the State Education Office said that out of 1,517 government basic education schools in Mon State—comprising 899 primary schools, 418 middle schools, and 200 high schools—only 831 primary schools, 394 middle schools, and 197 high schools have been able to reopen and operate.

The source noted that Bilin Township has the highest number of schools unable to open. In that township, three high schools, 18 middle schools, and 36 primary schools remain closed due to a lack of peace and stability in the area.

Similarly, in Ye Township, five middle schools and 18 primary schools have not yet been opened due to security and stability concerns, the source added.

According to the State Education Office, industrial, agricultural, and livestock training programs are being conducted at Basic Education High School No. 2 in Kyaikto Township, Basic Education High School No. 1 in Thaton Township, Basic Education High School (Ywar Lut) in Chaungzon Township, and Basic Education High School (Han Gan) in Ye Township. A total of 291 students from Grades 10 to 12 have enrolled in these programs.
