Myanmar Airways International (MAI) and Air KBZ will operate Yangon-Sittwe and Yangon-Thandwe daily flights for domestic travelers, according to a statement from the airlines.
The airlines will operate the Yangon-Kyaukphyu flight on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
To prevent the spread of COVID-19, all temporary visa restrictions on tourists coming to Myanmar from around the world have been extended until December 31, according to a press release from the Central Committee on Prevention, Control and Treatment for COVID-19.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued temporary restrictions on the number of tourists visiting Myanmar, and all of them have been extended until December 31, to implement more effective measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.
However, foreigners (including diplomats and staff from UN agencies) should visit the nearest Myanmar embassy or consulate abroad to be exempted from visa restrictions if they are to arrive in Myanmar by rescue or special aircraft whether it is an emergency government duty or unavoidable circumstances.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the international passenger aircraft will not be allowed to operate at Yangon International Airport until December 31 to prevent the spread of COVID-19 virus in Myanmar via air travel.
From 2016 to August 2020, more than 1.7 million international tourists visited Myanmar on e-Visa, generating US$ 69.2 million, according to a statement from the Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population.
