There have been eight court hearings for the case of Paing Takhon charged with section 505 (a) of the Penal Code of Myanmar, but only one plaintiff witness has given testimony, said defence lawyer U Khin Maung Myint.

Paing Takhon, an internationally renowned actor and model of Myanmar was arrested on April 7 and charged with section 505 (a) of the Penal Code.

“Eight rounds of his trial have happened. Only one plaintiff witness has completed his testimony” the lawyer said.

Paing Takhon has been detained in Insein Prison in Yangon for about seven months.

In connection with the case, the plaintiff has presented seven witnesses, and there have been delays in hearing the case due to a lockdown in the prison.

“The case has been long because the plaintiff could not come because the prison has been under lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic. There are seven plaintiff witnesses, he added. 

 Paing Takhon is reportedly in good health and he was not among those prisoners who were pardoned on October 8.

“He is in good health. But last month, he and Pyay Ti Oo (another detained actor) were taken ill due to food poisoning,” Khin Maung Myint said.

Currently, well-known film stars and vocalists such as Lu Min, Pyay Ti Oo, Ye Tike, Paing Takhon, Eindra Kyaw Zin, Po Po and Win Min Than are under detention in Insein Prison facing charges.
