Thailand is monitoring its border areas of Myanmar using drones as Myanmar citizens are illegally entering into Thailand, according to Moe Gyo, Chair of Joint Action Committee for Burmese Affairs based in Thailand.

Among Myanmar citizens illegally entering into Thailand, some are infected with COVID-19 virus.

Thai authorities are sentenced ten-year prison term and fined 100,000 Baht to people who illegally bring Myanmar citizens and sentenced five-year prison term and fined 50,000 Baht to people who illegally allowed them to stay in Thailand.

Thailand detained over 100 Myanmar citizens illegally entered into Thailand during November and first week of December.

A total of 6,000 Myanmar citizens were arrested for illegal entry in August alone and over 20,000 Myanmar citizens entered into Thailand without being arrested.

Department of Special Investigation (DSI) for Thailand announced around between 10,000 and 15,000 Myanmar citizens illegally entered into Thailand from March to November.

Health Ministry of Thailand warned in September the infection rate in Myanmar is increased and it may be spread to neighbouring Thailand within two weeks.

Thailand is tightened security in border areas and built fences to prevent illegal entry.

Security is tightened in Mae Sot-Myawady, Kawthoung-Ranong, Techilek-Mae Sai and Htikhi-Dawei rotues.

About 30 Myanmar citizens are detailed daily for illegal entry in Thailand, according to Moe Gyo.

Myanmar migrant workers are mostly living in Mae Sot, Mahachai, Chonburi, Ayutthaya and Kanchanaburi.

More than two million Myanmar migrant workers are working officially in Thailand and over 800,000 Myanmar citizens are living in Thailand illegally.
