State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi said that advance votes can be given if the voters cannot head to poll booths or anywhere due to ill health, during her televised speech on October 12 evening.
“Advance voting started for Myanmar citizens living in foreign countries. Myanmar will start its advance voting for those above 60 years of age. It’s a special privilege for senior citizens so that they can cast a vote without worrying about contracting COVID-19. It is also to avoid crowding in the polling booths. If one can walk, they can go to the election commission office and cast a vote. If they are unable to walk, officials from the election commission will come and take their advance vote at their homes,” said State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi.
She continued in saying that arrangements are being made to those at the quarantine centers and hospitals not to lose their right on voting. She desired that every eligible voter must vote for the election. As the general election is a challenge for all of us, it is also a chance for every Myanmar citizen. Myanmar living in foreign countries are casting their votes and among the list of 109,470 of eligible voters, 50520 have already given their votes, added State Counselor.
