China repatriates 73 Chinese tourists from Mandalay

Chinese government brought 73 Chinese tourists who were in Mandalay back to China via a charter flight by China Eastern Airline on the evening of January 28. 

According to a statement by the airline, under the special arrangement of Chinese government, 73 Chinese tourists who have been in Mandalay since 23 January are brought back to China. The Boeing 737 landed at Mandalay International Airport, at around 9 p.m. and left Mandalay for Wuhan. 

An official of the OCC in Mandalay International Airport said: “The Chinese government brings them back to China by charter flight. No passengers are not on the board when the flight landed in Mandalay. It is Mandalay-Wuhan direct flight.”

Mandalay Mayor Dr. Ye Lwin, Chair of the Screening and Response Team for Novel Coronavirus said: “We have not get any contact with Chinese government officials yet for the evacuation of 60 Myanmar students stranded in Wuhan which the deadly Novel Coronavirus originated.”

There are direct flight schedules between Wuhan and Mandalay every Monday and Friday. Since 24 January, five airlines have suspended their flight schedules between Mandalay and Wuhan in a bid to contain the spread of the deadly coronavirus.
