At the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, President U Min Aung Hlaing, who is on an official visit to India, led a high-level Myanmar delegation to pay homage at the Mahabodhi Pagoda within the Mahabodhi Mahavihara Temple complex in the Bodh Gaya Cultural Area on the morning of May 30.
Upon arrival at the Mahabodhi Mahavihara Temple, the President and members of the delegation paid homage to the Buddha image enshrined inside the Mahabodhi Pagoda and offered alms, water, candles, flowers and robes. A senior monk then presented the robes to the Buddha image on behalf of the President.
The President and delegation also paid homage to the Buddha image on the upper terrace of the Mahabodhi Pagoda, offering flowers, water and candles. They subsequently circumambulated the Mahabodhi Pagoda in a clockwise direction, paid respects at the sacred Mahabodhi Tree, and donated a Maravijaya Buddha image.
At the temple lobby, the President presented collective donations designated for the comprehensive renovation of the Mahabodhi Pagoda to the Mahabodhi Temple Sayadaw. In return, the Sayadaw offered a Dhamma gift, after which the President signed the Mahabodhi Pagoda guest book.
The President and members of the delegation later toured the Mahabodhi Mahavihara Temple complex and fed fish at Muchalinda Lake.
