COLOMBO (The Island/ANN) - According to Deputy Solicitor General statements from former ministers Rishad Bathiudeen and Rauf Hakeem over the Easter bombings is expected in the future. IGP Pujith Jayasundera and former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando further remand till January 6.
Colombo Additional Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage, yesterday, ordered to further remand IGP Pujith Jayasundera, who is on compulsory leave and former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando, until January 6th.
The order was given when they were produced before the Colombo Magistrate from remand custody.
Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris, on behalf of the Attorney General, said that although the President, the Prime Minister and a number of other special individuals including the Speaker had been given the opportunity to make statements regarding the April 21st attack, dates had not been scheduled yet.
The DSG informed the court that if a date was not set, they would report the matter to the court and request an order.
DSG Peiris said that he expected to receive statements from former ministers Rishad Bathiudeen and Rauf Hakeem in the future.
The Deputy Solicitor General said that the CID was also planning to record statements from former President, former Prime Minister and Speaker of Parliament.
Although requests had been made seeking permission to record statements from former President and several secretaries, they were yet to schedule dates for evidence recording, the DSG said.
He said the CID would seek a court order in the future if any individual was intentionally delaying evidence recording.
Considering the submissions, the Additional Magistrate ordered to further remand the two defendants until January 06. The CID was ordered to submit a report on the progress of the investigations into attacks on that day.
