From October 1 to 25 of 2019-20 FY, Myanmar earned 56.229 million US dollars from exports of over 80,000 tons of beans and pulses. The export volume has declined by around 29,000 tons compared with the same period last year. But the export earnings increased by around five million US dollars. Higher earnings are linked to bean price.

On October 4, the price of mung bean (FAQ) was Ks 853,000 per ton and mung bean (SQ), Ks 1,015,000 per ton.

Myanmar mainly exports green gram, mung bean and pigeon pea. India imports mung bean and pigeon pea from Myanmar. Myanmar also exports green gram to some European countries and China.

In February, 2019, the Commerce Minister and officials went to New Delhi, India to negotiate the exports of beans and pulses under the Government-to-Government agreement. At the meeting, Myanmar suggested three points—to release the bean export quota at the end of March, to fix more export quota for mung bean and to allow bean export quota all the year round instead of three months, said Deputy Commerce Minister Aung Htoo.
