The government peace negotiators are going to meet ethnic NCA signatories at the office of the NRPC in Yangon today (September 10) in an effort to resume official peace meetings.

The ethnic NCA signatories held a prior coordination meeting at Green Hill Hotel in Yangon and focused on subject matters to be discussed in meeting with the government peace negotiators.

The government’s four proposed points for peace process and the framework proposal of NCA implementation suggested by the ethnic NCA signatories will be on agenda, said Colonel Sai Ngin, Leader of the NCA signatories at the coordination meeting on September 7.

The meeting of the 10 and 11 September is expected to open up the road to official peace meetings, said Colonel Sai Ngin.

Similarly, the government, the parliament and Tatmadaw met in coordination at the Office of the NRPC in Yangon on September 9. Before this meeting, the NRPC and the KNU met in informal discussions in Yangon September 7.

It will be likely to begin official peace meetings, said Zaw Htay, Director-General of State Counsellor Office.

The official meetings as to the UPDJC and the JMC came to a stop after the special meeting of the government, Tatmadaw and the leaders of the ethnic NCA signatories was held in Nay Pyi Taw during October in 2018.

The government and ethnic NCA signatories held informal meetings following the halt to the official peace meetings. The government submitted their four proposed points to the ethnic armed organizations.

The four proposed points of the government are—definitions must reach the agreement in the implementation of NCA, federal principles must be sought in Union Peace Conference, agreements must be sought between dialogue partners to continue holding political dialogues before and after 2020 and fruits of peace can be enjoyed in the regions of ten ethnic NCA signatories.
