Govt and Huawei holds Myamar's first ever Cloud and AI contest

August 2, 2019 Yangon  - Tech savvy students from universities across Myanmar will have the opportunity to participate in the country's first ever Cloud and AI innovation contest, jointly orgnanized by Myanmar Rectors’ Committee, Myanmar Computer Federation (MCF) and Department of Research and Innovation of Ministry of Education, and supported by Huawei Myanmar.

The project aimed at nurturing a new generation of talents that will help bridge Myanmar to the world of artificial intelligence, a powerful and necessary tool required to further boost development.

 

The contest will run through out July to September and top  ten submitted projects will be announced end of August and presentations of each project and final awarding ceremony will be held on 7 September 2019. The registeration period will be between 5th July and 10th August and deadline for submission is 25th August.

The entries can be for any sectors including agricultural, education, healthcare, and other business areas. They can be submitted on Windows, Linux, Android, iOS and any other suitable OS in either English or Myanmar language.

Myanmar’s information and communication technology (ICT) will be promoted through talents of this competition. Recently digital transformation of governments and enterprises is getting faster due emerging technologies such as IoT, 5G, Cloud and AI.  Utilization of these new technologies can empower Myanmar to bypass traditional IT stage realizing leapfrog development in economy.

Chairman of Rector's Comittee, Dr. Zaw Wai Soe said that holding such events such as the country's first Cloud & AI contest will help pave the way for the nation's ICT sector toward a bright future.

"Since 2017, Rectors’ Committee and Huawei have engaged to implement a number of activities to support ICT talent development in Myanmar. We are happy to work with Huawei and other partners to hold this nationwide contest bridging Myanmar to the AI world,” said the chairman.
