Voter lists of military personnel and their families are likely to be made in the end of 2019, according to the Union Election Commission.

"We are likely to collect the lists of them by the end of this year. UEC will decide on this," commission spokesperson Myint Naing told The Daily Eleven.

The making of basic voter lists in the regions and states of Myanmar was completed in September. Some officials from region/state election sub-commissions said voters lists of servicemen and their families would be made after the instruction from the UEC.

However, Tun Aung Khaing, secretary of Kachin State Election Sub-commission, said that there has been no instruction from the UEC.

"We can't say exactly. If they (UEC) ask, we have to do it. We will contact respective military units. They will call for officials concerned for information. Then we will collect and make lists," he said.

Shan State Election Sub-Commission chairman Htin Kyaw said if the lists of military personnel were made now, updated data could not be gathered because servicemen are going to and from their barracks.

According to the basic voter lists made in September, there are around 39 million eligible voters for the 2020 general election, exceeding over 5 million compared to the 2015 election.

UEC has officially announced that general election will be held in the end of 2020.
