The U.S. Embassy in Yangon announced on March 18 that the U.S. government will award Fulbright scholarships to outstanding Myanmar students.
The Fulbright Foreign Student Program provides full scholarships to Myanmar students who wish to pursue a master’s degree at a university in the United States, the embassy said.
The scholarship is currently open for applications for the 2027-2028 academic year, and the deadline for applications is May 1.
Applicants should consider the current restrictions and the need to qualify for applicable travel exemptions when applying, the embassy said.
The Fulbright scholarship program was suspended after the U.S. government imposed a travel ban on Myanmar, but is now being renewed.
On June 4, 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump issued an executive order banning travel from 12 countries, including Myanmar, which went into effect on June 9.
