Myanmar authorities have demolished three more illegal residential buildings in the Shwe Kokko area that were allegedly used for online scam and illegal gambling operations, according to official reports.
The Myanmar government has been carrying out clearance operations in Shwe Kokko and KK Park, areas known for hosting large-scale online scam and gambling activities. Joint task forces from relevant departments have been inspecting illegal buildings, destroying confiscated equipment used in the operations, and demolishing structures to prevent further criminal activities.
On May 28, authorities demolished three four-storey illegal residential buildings in the Shwe Kokko area as part of the ongoing crackdown.
Officials said that among 77 buildings identified as being connected to online scam and gambling operations in Shwe Kokko, 57 structures are scheduled to be demolished using heavy machinery, while another 20 will be destroyed by controlled explosions, depending on the type and condition of the buildings.
The three buildings demolished on May 28 were among the 57 structures designated for mechanical demolition. Authorities stated that a total of 12 buildings had been destroyed as of May 28, while demolition work on the remaining 65 illegal structures will continue.
The government also said it is cooperating with domestic organizations and neighboring countries to ensure that online scam and illegal gambling operations can no longer establish a presence inside Myanmar.
