The Union Betterment Party, which was founded by Ex-general and former Lower House Speaker Thura Shwe Mann, will not intend to participate in the constituencies where more than half of ethnic people are residing, said Tin Maung Oo, an organizing in-charge of the UBP representing Yangon Region.
“We won’t have any plan to participate in the constituencies where more than 50 % of the entire ethnic people are living. If Bama people live in the constituencies where less than 50 % of the entire ethnic people, we will take part in,” said Tin Maung Oo.
He added that more than 250 branch offices have already been opened. We have aimed at participating in the townships where branch offices are being open.
If everyone wishes to be a member for the UBP, he/she must be a citizen and 18 years old. But membership fees and monthly fees are unnecessary.
The UBP led by Ex-general and former Lower House Speaker Shwe Mann applied to register in February in 2019 and the Union Election Commission passed the party registration on April 4.
The UBP brought the number of party members to more than 300,000 over six months after it has been founded.
The UBP was founded as we supposed that it was necessary to establish it for the country. We have had experiences of political parties and we have already realized what are dos and don’ts, said Thura Shwe Mann during the party launching ceremony held in Yangon on June 29.
