Tanintharyi Region- A fatal collision occurred between two vehicles on the Dawei-Myeik highway near Panpyin and Tharyat Hnakhwa villages in Thayatchaung Township, resulting in the deaths of two women and serious injuries to a male driver, according to local sources.
The accident took place on March 10 at around 3:00 pm. when a 22-wheeled cargo truck traveling from Myeik to Dawei collided head-on with a Toyota TownAce van heading in the opposite direction.
As a result of the crash, two female passengers, aged 30 and 40, who were in the front cabin of the Toyota van, died instantly at the scene. The male driver sustained severe injuries, while the cargo truck veered off the road due to the impact.
A local resident reported that the accident might have been caused by poor visibility, as smoke from burning grass along the roadside had obscured the drivers' view.
“At the time of the crash, the roadside was covered in smoke from burnt grass, which may have contributed to the accident. We still don't know where the victims were traveling from,” the resident said.
Following the incident, volunteers from the Myat Parami Philanthropic Rescue Team transported the bodies of the deceased women to Thayatchaung Township Public Hospital’s mortuary. Meanwhile, the injured driver was taken to Dawei General Hospital by the Zambuthiri Rescue Team.
This accident follows a similar incident on February 22, when a vehicle lost control and overturned near Tharyarmon village on the Dawei-Ye highway, injuring three family members, including a child.
