The families of the Tatmadaw (Army, Navy, and Air Force), led by Chairman of the State Administration Council and Commander-in-Chief of Defense Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, paid respect to retired military officers, including former President U Thein Sein.
The event took place on the afternoon of March 26 at the Zeya Thiri Beikhman in Nay Pyi Taw, ahead of the 80th Military Day parade on March 27. A total of 15 retired military officers and six of their wives attended the ceremony, along with Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and his wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, Vice Senior General Soe Win and his wife Daw Than Than Nwe, Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy, and Air) Lt-Gen Kyaw Swa Lin and his wife, as well as other senior military officers and their spouses.
In his address, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing highlighted the Tatmadaw’s long-standing traditions and the role of retired military officers as mentors and guiding figures. He emphasized that since Myanmar’s independence, the Tatmadaw has upheld its duty to the nation with a strong commitment to defending the country, preserving national unity, and safeguarding religion and culture. He acknowledged that the military has endured various historical challenges and has consistently defended against both internal and external threats.
He also reaffirmed the Tatmadaw’s commitment to fulfilling state responsibilities under the 2008 Constitution, ensuring the stability of the country, and maintaining a multi-party democratic system. He announced that a free and fair general election is planned by the end of the year, after which state power will be transferred to the winning party. The Tatmadaw, he said, remains dedicated to protecting national unity and strengthening democracy in accordance with the law.
Senior General Min Aung Hlaing expressed his appreciation for the retired military officers in attendance and recognized their contributions to the country. He described the ceremony as a reflection of the Tatmadaw’s tradition of showing respect and gratitude to both superiors and subordinates. He also welcomed guidance and advice from the retired officers.
After that, on behalf of the families of the Tatmadaw (Army, Navy, and Air), the Chairman of the State Administration Council, Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services and his wife, the attending senior military officers and their wives paid their respects to the retired military officers in accordance with Myanmar traditional customs and traditions.
On behalf of the retired officers, General Thein Sein and Lt-Gen Aung Htwe expressed their appreciation for the paying respcet, calling it a meaningful and honorable tradition of the Tatmadaw. They voiced their support for the military’s ongoing efforts to maintain national stability, ensure security and defense, and contribute to the socio-economic development of the people. They emphasized the importance of a strong military force in safeguarding national unity and overcoming challenges. The retired officers encouraged the continuation of the Tatmadaw’s longstanding traditions and urged efforts to further strengthen the institution for the benefit of the country.
After that, the Chairman of the State Administration Council, Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services and his wife, Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) and his wife, senior military officers and their wives presented gifts to the retired military officers and their wives.
