Tatmadaw donates over Ks 2.245 billion for COVID-19

Yangon—Military Chief Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, senior military officials, and other ranks donated their salaries of over Ks 2.245 billion for prevention, control and treatment of COVID-19, according to a statement by the Office of Commander-in-Chief on 6 April. 

The Senior General and senior military officials donated their one-month salaries while military service personnel from army, navy, and air and civilian staff appointed by the army donated their one-day salaries. 

The donation is aimed for the purchase of necessary medical equipment in the People’s Hospitals and for prevention, control and treatment of COVID-19 and quarantine measures, the statement says. 

On 11 March, the WHO declared COVID-19 a global pandemic. 

According to a statement on 6 April, the Tatmadaw has accepted 318 quarantined persons at the military-owned facilities— 130 persons in Yangon and 188 in Nay Pyi Taw. 

The quarantined persons are in good condition. The military medical teams in Yangon and Nay Pyi Taw Commands are providing health care to them, according to the  statement.
