Reports indicate that a fuel tanker truck was stopped and its cab set on fire by an armed group near Sutpalaung Village in Kawt Lay Village-tract, Thanbyuzayat Township.

On the morning of April 5, around 9 AM, a white fuel tanker truck (License Plate: 9D/4354) traveling from Thanbyuzayat toward Ye was intercepted by an armed group of about 30 members near a cemetery along the Thanbyuzayat-Ye road. The group demanded a ransom of 20 million kyats from the driver.

When the driver failed to pay by noon, the armed group disconnected the trailer carrying fuel, set fire to the truck’s cab, and seized the trailer.

A security source close to the incident stated that by around 2 PM, the driver, his wife, and a helper were released and sent back toward Thanbyuzayat in a Ye-Mawlamyine passenger van.

The source further explained, "The armed group initially demanded 20 million kyats. After negotiations, they agreed to 5 million, but when the driver later insisted on paying only 3 million, the group refused and burned the truck’s cab."

The trailer had been carrying 14,000 liters of diesel, 7,000 liters of premium diesel, and 14,000 liters of petrol. The armed group reportedly towed the trailer toward Wehkhami Village and later removed the fuel.

As of the morning of April 7, locals reported that the abandoned trailer remained near a football field in Wehkhami Village.

Residents also noted increased military activity along the Thanbyuzayat-Ye road section (Union Highway No. 8), with armed groups conducting operations in the area.
