Forty undocumented Myanmar nationals have been arrested in Kanchanaburi, Thailand, following illegal border crossings from the Phaya Thonezu in Karen State, Myanmar, on February 24.
According to reports from Thai authorities, the arrests occurred in two separate incidents. Seventeen men and one woman were apprehended hiding in a sealed pickup truck near Kanchanaburi, while another group of 17 men and five women were found hiding in a house in the area overnight.
The arrested individuals are currently being held at the Kanchanaburi police station, where investigations are ongoing. Thai and Myanmar authorities are in talks to facilitate their repatriation.
This recent arrest follows a series of similar incidents in the region. On February 18, another 15 undocumented Myanmar nationals were detained between Sangkhlaburi and Daun Phaphon, while 116 others were found hiding on a sea island near Win Ka Village in Sangkhlaburi. Additionally, 54 more undocumented Myanmar nationals were arrested in Kanchanaburi on February 19 and 20 according to sources from Thai.
