Statements issued by the UN Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in Myanmar, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and Spokesperson for the United Nations Secretary-General are interfering with the judiciary and internal affairs, announced Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA).
Mr. Abdou Abarry, Permanent Representative of Niger and President of the United Nations Security Council, has expressed grave concern over the imprisonment of State Counsellor and President U Win Myint and called for the immediate release of all detainees.
The statement said everyone is equal before the court and no one is above the law. It said unilateral criticism of the decisions of a sovereign state's domestic jurisdiction is inappropriate and interferes with the judiciary and internal affairs of Myanmar.
Similarly, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General and Mr. Ramanathan Balakrishnan, Acting Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Yangon respectively issued statements regarding the incident that took place in Kyimyindine Township, Yangon Region on December 5.
Statements by the United Nations regarding the incident do not necessarily reflect the facts of the case, but are intended to refer to widespread misinformation and false allegations circulating online. Similarly, some foreign embassies based in Myanmar have issued unilateral statements. The MOFA urges UN agencies and foreign embassies should not continue to make unilateral allegations about unconfirmed reports and adherence to the standards of the United Nations and the provisions of the Vienna Convention.
