The stake driving ceremony of No.3 Thanlyin Bridge (Bago river-crossing bridge) is held in Yangon on February 13.

The ceremony is attended by the Yangon Region Chief Minister Phyo Min Thein and cabinet members, Deputy Minister of MLIT from Japan and members, Japanese Ambassador for Myanmar and officials from Ministry of Construction.

The bridge, which is estimated to cost over US$300 million including a loan from Japan, will build with three phases.

Japanese construction companies will take charge to build the bridge in sectors, according to Kyaw Lin, Deputy Minister for Construction.

The project will be implemented with a Japanese loan of US$282 million and US$40 million from Myanmar and it is expected to finish by 2023, according to the ministry.

“The ministry built many Ngamoeyeik creek crossing bridges to develop eastern part of Yangon. It opened Thuwanna-Ngamoeyeik Bridge recently. We opened Dawbon Bridge with the aid of Japan in this year. The ministry built No.1 and 2 Thanlyin bridges to develop Dala, Theketa, Dawbon, North Dagon, South Dagon, East Dagon and West Dagon townships in addition to Thanlyin, Kyauktan, Khayan and Thonkwa. They are intended to ease traffic jam,” said Phyo Min Thein.

Union Parliament approved the loan of US$282 billion from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) after Deputy Minister for Planning and Finance clarified about the loan at the union parliament.

The bridge will be built on Bago River connecting between Thanlyin and Thaketa townships. It will be 125 meters away from the downstream of No.1 Thanlyin Bridge.

It has 1,928 meters in length and the main bridge has 1,224 meters in length. The road approaching the bridge from Theketa has 300 meters in length and from Thanlyin has 404 meters in length. The main body of the bridge will be built with steel box girder and 75-ton weight vehicle can pass the bridge.
