The general election is important in a democratic system, and the holding of the election is necessary to convene and form the various parliaments, said Acting President and Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.
On the afternoon of September 19, while meeting with departmental officials and township elders in Myeik, Tanintharyi Region at the Pearl Yadanar Hall in Myeik, the SSPC Chairman Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, made the following remarks.
The general election is important in a democratic system, and the holding of the election is necessary to convene and form the various parliaments. The parliament assigns responsibilities to the President, Vice President, administrative organizations, and union-level organizations assigned by the President, and the government. Therefore, it is important to hold the election and comply with the law, said the SSPC Chairman.
When the voter fraud occurred in the 2020 multi-party democratic general election, the Tatmadaw and I repeatedly said that we should resolve the issue in accordance with the law. However, the responsible government has not taken any action. Furthermore, Tatmadaw has been forced to fulfill its duties in accordance with the 2008 Constitution because the party winning the election were forcing to convene the parliament and seize state power by force. We are making preparations to hold elections in the near future. We will ensure that the elections are fair and successful, said the SSPC Chairman.
We will continue to work to ensure that the country continues to walk firmly on the path of multi-party democracy. We need to do so in a politically correct manner. Tatmadaw has agreed to continue to walk firmly and firmly on the multi-party democracy desired by the people. General elections are vital and very important in a democratic system. The 2008 Constitution has already stipulated the holding of parliaments, said the SSPC Chairman.
We are making preparations to hold multi-party democratic general elections in December. In doing so, preparations are being made to hold free, fair and dignified elections. In addition, Myanmar Electronic Voting Machines (MEVMs) are being used to cast votes. The MEVMs are reliable and cannot be tampered with. In addition, the elected representatives we choose must be people who can truly serve the country, truly support the democratic system, truly protect and safeguard our three responsibilities, and be able to make the country a better place. Just as the state is working to improve the Myeik region, I would like to urge the people living in the Myeik region to work together for the benefit of their region, as well, said the SSPC Chairman.
Secretary of the Commission and Joint Executive Chief of the National Defence and Security Council General Ye Win Oo, Union Ministers U Min Naung, Dr Myo Thein Kyaw, Tanintharyi Region Chief Minister U Myat Ko, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services, the Commander of the Coastal Region Command, deputy ministers and officials, departmental officials in Myeik, and township elders attended the ceremony.
