Authorities issued an order which banned two people, including the person who drives the motorcycle, riding on a motorcycle in Sagaing on December 9.

The township general administration department issued a local ban on motorcycles, but it was not immediately clear what action would be taken.

"Two women can ride a motorcycle. It is a local order that neither two boys nor a man and a woman can ride. It is not a written notice. So we do not know what to do. At the moment, we only know that it is an education period,” said a ward administrator.

"Today, they announced the ban around the market and downtown areas. In addition, there are more traffic policemen at traffic lights than ever before. Inspections are also being carried out at the Ahthinkhayar Saw Yun roundabout on the outskirts of the city,” said a Sagaing resident.

The order banning a two-man motorcycle ride has been widely circulated on social media in some townships in other states and regions, and criticism is mounting.
