Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Chairman of State Administration Council (SAC) and Prime Minister said he will meet with the leaders of the ethnic armed groups in person and will be informed the attendee list of the meeting by May 9.

Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, revealed about the invitation after delivering a speech on peace this afternoon (April 22).

Senior General Min Aung Hlaing said, “The government and the military have firmly guaranteed the establishment of a union state based on the democratic and federal system that the ethnic armed groups have always demanded. The upcoming January 4 is Diamond Jubilee of Independence Day. Current events also show that the ethnic peoples have not yet fully experienced the essence of independence after 75 years. The main reason is the ethnic armed conflicts that have arisen based on disagreements. Only if we can solve this can we fully enjoy the essence of democracy and independence. That is why I have said that 2022 is the year of peace and that we will work for a nationwide ceasefire. We call on the leaders of the ethnic armed groups to meet as this needs to be implemented effectively and practically. I will see all the groups in person. Afterwards, discussions will be held with the delegations of the SAC. Further discussions will be held if necessary. The meeting should be attended by the leaders of the various ethnic armed groups and two members each. The names of the individuals, who want to attend the meeting, should be submitted by May 9 at the latest. I would like to say that the two sides will negotiate and set a date for the meeting. We will all work together to have an honest discussion so that all ethnic peoples can enjoy peace and development. We urge all of you to work together for the benefit of all the people of the Union.”
