Rainy weather delays salt production in Mon State

Salt farmers in Thanphyuzayet Township of Mon State are facing difficulties due to the rainy weather that has been affecting the region since January 26.

The rain has prevented the salt from getting enough sunlight and caused the salt fields to become wet and the salt to melt. This has resulted in a delay in salt output and an increase in costs for the farmers.

The price of raw salt is around 170 kyats per viss, but the salt market is sluggish as there is less salt available. The salt farmers are hoping for the sun to return soon so that they can resume their salt production and repair their salt fields.

The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology has warned that there may be heavy rain in many parts of Myanmar due to the interaction of warm and cold air masses from the Adman Sea, the Bay of Bengal and mainland China.

The rainy weather has also affected other sun-dried salt industries in Mon State, such as those in Kyaikhami, Setse, Wekalaung, Ye and Paung.
