Private hospitals, clinics allowed to import Covid-19 vaccines

Private entrepreneurs have been permitted to import Covid-19 vaccines and vaccinate public members at private hospitals and clinics with the approval of Food and Drug Administration, said Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, chairman of State Administration Council. 

He disclosed the information during a coordination meeting of the council on February 15. 

In his address to the public on Myanmar’s situation on February 11, he also said permission would be granted to use Sputnik V vaccine developed by Russia, SARS COVI vaccine by China and COVAXIN vaccine produced by India. 

He said systematic measures were being taken to ensure the strength of the State and health and fitness of the people could not wane due to the Covid-19 global pandemic. Almost all frontline health staff and volunteers and some service personnel with the rank of director and above received first doses of the vaccine. Moreover, the vaccination of people aged 65 and above living in the state-at-home townships had started. The second batch of 2 million doses of the vaccine from India arrived on February 11, he said. 

The Senior General added that the private sector would be allowed to import Covid-19 vaccines and vaccinate the people in a bid to cover the whole country in vaccination.
