Over 800 kg of Crystal Meth worth more than Ks 20 billion seized in Lewe and Dala

Authorities have seized more than 800 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine (Ice) with an estimated local street value of over Ks 20 billion in separate operations in Lewe Township and Dala Township, preventing the drugs from being transported by sea, according to official reports.

Acting on intelligence, the Anti-Narcotics Police Force conducted an operation at around 10:30 pm. on July 6 near Taung Zin Aye Village in Lewe Township. Officers intercepted a six-wheel GOVZCT truck driven by Kyaw Oo, with Zaw Zaw Tun as a passenger, and seized 500 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, valued at approximately Ks 12.5 billion.

Further investigations led to additional arrests. At around 7:30 pm. on July 7, police arrested Zeya Lin and Htwe Min Zaw, who were allegedly involved in transporting the drugs, at the No. 3 Road Junction in Mingaladon Township.

On the morning of July 8, at approximately 8:30 am., authorities arrested Myo Than in Ward 29, North Dagon Township, and confiscated a Toyota Hilux Surf believed to have been used in the operation.

Based on information obtained during the investigation, police carried out another raid at around 11:30 am. on July 8 on the "Miba Metta (1)" motorboat, owned by Wai Htun, which was docked along the Yangon River in Mawset Ward, Dala Township.

During the operation, officers arrested 10 suspects—Khin Maung Tun, Sa Myo Min, Kyaw Kyaw Win, Win Naing Oo, Moe Zaw Oo, Maung Maung, Cho Lwin, Than Wai, Hla Myo Khaing, and Myint Khaing—and seized an additional 310 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, with an estimated local value of Ks 7.75 billion.

Upon investigation,  Kyaw Oo, who was involved in transporting the seized ice (methamphetamine) to the sea, was arrested in Kungyangon Township and Raza Hein in Botahtaung Township.

According to the investigation,  the person responsible for transporting the seized ice (methamphetamine) from Shan State (North) to Yangon was Yan Kyaw Shaw (aka) Yan Kala (to be arrested) from Pan Hoe Village, Lashio Township, and the main manager of the shipment from Yangon to the sea was Wai Htun (to be arrested) from Nyaung Pin Thar Village, Hmawbi Township, the owner of William Htun Company, and the directors of William Htun Company who collaborated with him, Myat Thu (to be arrested) from Nwe Aye Ward, Dawbon Township, Raza Hein (aka) Raza from Tamwe Township, and Myo Than from North Dagon Township, were the ones who transported and traded the seized ice (methamphetamine) to the sea via Yangon.

Regarding this incident, they have been charged under the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Act, and the investigation and identification of the perpetrators of the series of crimes is ongoing, and action is being taken under the Anti-Money Laundering Act to confiscate the financial benefits and assets they received from drug trafficking as public funds, according to a statement from the Narcotics Control Police.
