The water level of the Thaungyin River, which forms part of the Myanmar–Thailand border, rose above the danger level to 1,158 centimetres on August 21. However, the river level has been receding since the afternoon of August 22 and had further dropped to 1,000 centimetres as of 6 pm today, according to measurements.
Only one flood evacuation camp has so far been closed, while more than 2,300 people remain sheltered in flood evacuation camps, according to reports.
Some homes in low-lying wards remain submerged, preventing residents from returning home. They continue to take shelter at temporary flood relief camps.
The temporary flood evacuation camp at Yae Pu Taung Paw Monastery has been closed. However, a total of 2,346 people were still sheltering as of 2 pm today at the remaining five flood evacuation camps: Adhitan Aung Stupa Religious Hall and Dhamman Yan Aung Religious Hall in Ward 3; Taw Ya Monastery and Kya Khat Taw Monastery in Ward 4; and Koe Na Win Monastery in Ward 5.
The flood evacuees are being cared for by the Natural Disaster Response Committee, formed in coordination with departmental officials from Myawady District and Township. Food and relief supplies are being provided by the Myawady District Natural Disaster Management Committee, local military units and donors, according to reports.
