Lt-Gen Kyaw Swe will resign from his duties as Union Minister for Home Affairs and returned to his military duties and the new Union Minister for Home Affairs will be appointed, said Zaw Htay, Spokesperson of President Office.

He said about it at a press conference held at Nay Pyi Taw on January 31.

“The president has been informed of his resignation,” said Zaw Htay.

The replacement will proceed according to the constitution and it will be informed in details when the respective ministry releases a statement, he said.

Sources said Lt-Gen Soe Htut, who is chief of Military Security Affairs, will replace him.

The home affairs minister is nominated by the commander-in-chief, rather than the President and seek approval from the Union Parliament to appoint.
