Plans made to generate more electricity in Yangon Region: Minister

Plans are being made to expand power generation in order to meet the demand for electricity in Yangon Region, said U Nyan Tun, Union Minister for Electric Power at a business coordination meeting regarding the reduction of power outages and improving the stability of the power system in Yangon Region held at the headquarters of Yangon Electricity Supply Corporation (YESC) on October 10.

It is reported that district electrical managers and district electrical engineers in Yangon Region explained the measures to be taken to distribute electricity in districts and townships, to increase annual power consumption, to reduce power loss and to collect electricity bills.

After that, the chairman of YESC gave a supplementary briefing on the current situation of electricity distribution in Yangon Region.

In response to the presentations, the Union Minister said that in order to meet the demand for electricity in Yangon Region, plans are being made to expand and build power production as well as to load more electricity produced. On the other hand, efforts are being made to improve the power outages, balance of reducing power loss and improving the stability of the power system.

The meeting was attended by U Nyan Tun, Union Minister for Electric Power, Chairman of YESC, Director Generals, Managing Directors and Department Heads of Union Minister's Office, departments and organizations, district electrical managers and district electrical engineers in Yangon Region, township electrical managers and township electrical engineers, and financial officers attended.
