Plaintiff continues to testify against Daw Aung Suu Kyi for taking over $500K bribe from tycoon Maung Weik

U Ye Htet from the Anti-Corruption Commission testified as a plaintiff in court against Daw Aung San Suu Kyi for one (Case No.4/2022) of the two counts of corruption charges under the Anti-Corruption Law for reportedly receiving   hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes from Maung Weik, owner of Sae Paing Company, according to sources related to the case.

Daw Aung San Suu Kyi appeared in the Zabuthiri special court in the compound of the Nay Pyi Taw Council and was questioned on May 17.

During the hearing, U Ye Htet was mainly questioned for Case No.4/2022) in which Daw Aung San Suu Kyi was charged with corruption under Case No.3/2022 and Case No.4/2022). The lawyers of the defendant will cross-examine in the next trial, the sources said.

The State-owned MWD TV broadcast Maung Weik's statement on March 17, 2021 in relation to the case against Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.

In the video, Maung Weik testified that he personally paid Daw Aung San Suu Kyi US$ 550,000 during the period from 2018 to 2020.

He said he gave US$ 100,000 to Daw Aung San Suu Kyi for Daw Khin Kyi’s Foundation fund at her home in May 2018, US$150,000 in a black color paper gift bag in 2019, US$50,000 in February 2020 and US$250,000 in April 2020.

The next hearing is set on May 24, and the plaintiff will further testify, according to the sources.
