A total of 25 radiation oncology machines (Linear Accelerator-LIANC) are being used nationwide, including newly installed machines, according to the Ministry of Health.

These radiation cancer treatment machines are 14 cancer treatment machines at the Ministry of Health, including three newly installed machines at the National Cancer Treatment Center in Dagon Myothit (Seikkan) Township, 7 machines in private hospitals and 4 machines in the military hospital, totaling 25 cancer treatment machines.

Union Minister for Health Professor Dr Thet Khaing Win said, “Including the three machines installed today, the ministry has installed a total of 14 radiation cancer treatment machines. Seven are being used in private hospitals and four are being installed in the military hospital, so the whole country will be able to provide treatment with a total of 25 machines.”

The ceremony of starting the use of radiation cancer treatment machines (Linear Accelerator-LIANC) at the National Cancer Treatment Center on Bago riverside detour road in Ward 92, Dagon Myothit (Seikkan) Township was held on the morning of January 21.

In order to assist in the implementation of reducing the waiting time for cancer radiation treatment as a priority process, not only public hospitals but also five private hospitals have already been approved for radiation cancer treatment activities.

The five private hospitals being allowed are Grand Hantha Hospital, Moe Kaung Yadanar Hospital, Pin Lon Hospital in Yangon and Mingalar Hospital in Mandalay.

In these private hospitals, patients selected by Yangon General Hospital and Mandalay General Hospital to be treated with radiation are being treated since March 2024 in accordance with the Law on Private Health Services, and 224 patients have been treated since then.
