As the party was formed for the people, it will remain so long as the people exist, advocate Min Min Soe quoted State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi as saying.

The State Counsellor appeared in an exclusive court in the compound of Nay Pyi Taw Council office in Zabuthirit Township, Nay Pyi Taw, on May 24 on two charges under section 25 of the natural disaster management law and other charges under section 8 of the export/import law, section 67 of the telecommunications law and section 505 (b) of the penal code. Together with her, President Win Myint charged under section 25 of the natural disaster management law and section 505 (b) of the penal code and Nay Pyi Taw Council chair Dr Myo Aung charged under section 505 (b) of the penal code also appeared in court.

“Nothing was interrogated today at the court. We met with her today as we were told at the previous court hearing to take instructions. The next trail was set. It will be on June 7. We all lawyers were told that case management will start at the next trial. Both sides were given papers about this. We had to give our signatures. No one entered the room. We lawyers and defendants had to sit exclusively. The room has a CCTV. (Replying to the reporter’s question about any message from the State Counsellor, the lawyer said) she first prayed for the people. She said her party was established for the people, so it will exist so long as the people exist,” lawyer Min Min Soe said.

She said the lawyers were asked to visit No (1) Myoma Police Station in Zabuthiri Township at 8 am on May 24 before going to the court.

“Six of us had to go to the police station. Five lawyers are for Mother Suu and U Win Myint and one for Dr Myo Aung. We were asked to come to the police station at 8 am. Then, we in our car had to follow their car (from the police station). We were led to a building in Nay Pyi Taw Council area. There, we met Mother Suu. We were given about half an hour to meet her. We took her instructions. Instructions were also taken from U Win Myint and Dr Myo Aung,” lawyer Min Min Soe said.

She added the three were allowed to meet their lawyers.

Asked where Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has to live, another lawyer Khin Maung Zaw said: “She told us she didn’t know this place (court). She also said she doesn’t know either where she is kept.”

Min Min Soe said all the three were in good health adding that it was not enough to meet the clients for about half an hour.
