In Taungoo Township, Bago Region, a total of 17,429 eligible voters were registered for Part (1) of the 2025 Multi-Party Democratic General Election, which was successfully held on December 28. Of these, 65,819 voters cast their ballots, resulting in a voter turnout of over 46 percent of eligible voters, according to reports.

In Taungoo Township, polling stations opened at 6:00 a.m. on December 28. Voters from 64 wards and villages cast their ballots using Myanmar Electronic Voting Machines at 142 polling stations until 4:00 p.m., with a total of 51,196 voters voting through the electronic system.

For Taungoo Township, 14,623 voters cast domestic advance ballots. Including the 51,196 voters who voted using Myanmar Electronic Voting Machines, a total of 65,819 voters, or 46.15 percent, participated in the voting process. According to the Taungoo District Sub-Commission of the Election Commission, advance ballots from members of the Armed Forces, out-of-constituency advance voters, and displaced persons’ advance votes have yet to be counted.

In Taungoo District constituencies, a total of 83 parliamentary candidates—including candidates from the Union Solidarity and Development Party, People’s Pioneer Party, People’s Party, Myanmar Farmers Development Party, National Unity Party, Union Peace and Unity Party, Shan and Nationalities Democratic Party (White Tiger Party), as well as one independent candidate—are contesting the election.

For the 2025 Multi-Party Democratic General Election, which will be held under the Mixed-Member Proportional (MMP) system, Part (1) of the election for Taungoo District was held in Taungoo Township on December 28. Part (2) will be held in Htantabin and Yedashe townships on January 11, 2026, and Part (3) will be held in Oktwin, Phyu, and Kyaukkyi townships on January 25, 2026, it is reported.
