Over 3,500 Myanmar workers sent abroad from February 2021 to January 2022

Myanmar sent a total of 3,564 workers to foreign countries from February 1, 2021 to January 31, 2022, according to the Ministry of Labour.

The information was disclosed by Union Minister for Labour U Myint Kyaing during a virtual tripartite meeting among the government, employers and employees on solving difficulties facing the factories and workshops across the country on February 25.  

He said more plans were underway to send Myanmar migrant workers to Thailand under an MoU system in line with the Covid-19 prevention rules by holding bilateral coordination meetings on sending and accepting workers.

From February 1, 2021 to January this year, a total of 3,564 Myanmar workers were sent abroad2,185 to Singapore, 225 to Korea, 262 to Japan, 84 to Malaysia and 808 to 41 other countries. Those workers were sent through overseas employment agencies while highly-skilled ones went abroad under their own plans, the minister said.
