The Myanmar government has issued instructions 13 times to block over 2,200 websites, said an official from Telenor Myanmar during its seventh annual Sustainability Briefing on December 3.

Along with all other operators, ISPs and international gateways in Myanmar, Telenor received 13 blocking requests covering over 2,200 websites across five broad government-defined categories: porn, child abuse, alleged “fake news”/misinformation, gambling and cybersecurity threats.

If users open the links of those blocked websites, they will find that they have been blocked under the instruction of Myanmar authorities.

Telenor Myanmar announced that the government instructed the operators in March to block over 2,000 websites. These instructions were issued based on Section 77 of the Telecommunications Law.
