Over 1.1m amphetamines worth Ks2.3 bn confiscated in Maungdaw

More than 1.1 million amphetamines worth Ks2.3 billion were seized in Maungdaw Township, Rakhine State, according to Maungdaw District Police Force.

The stimulant tables were seized from the home of a Bengali in Latha Village, Myo-U Village-tract, Maungdaw Township. The seizures are 1,170,000 amphetamines worth over Ks 23 billion.

Acting on a tip off that Raw Phi (aka) Raw Phi U La, aged 40, from Latha Village was carrying bags of stimulants to his home, a combined police force led by head of Rakhine State Police Force Police Colonel Kyi Lin and head of Maungdaw District Police Force Police Lieutenant Colonel Tun Myint Tun surrounded the home at 4.15 pm on October 8. The home door was found locked so the authorities had to forcibly open it. Then, six polythene bags were found containing 120 packages with 9,750 stimulant pills each bearing 'WY' letters. Each tablet costs about Ks2,000.

A legal case has been opened and police are now in hot pursuance of the suspect.  

On October 5 evening also, 282,750 amphetamines estimated to be worth over Ks500 million were seized together with a motorbike. But the suspects managed to escape.
