National Reconciliation and Peace Center (NRPC) and northern allies will be meeting at Kengtong on August 31, according to Peace-talk Creation Group (PCG).

San Aung from the PCG said the meeting between government and northern allies need to arrange as the extension period of unilateral ceasefire in five regional commands will be ended on August 31.

“I don’t know the connection of the Chinese in the talk but they need to meet that day as the extension period of unilateral ceasefire in five regional commands will be ended on August 31,” he said.

He added the NRPC and northern allies will be discussed mainly on bilateral agreement and war refugees.

He said he is hoping the discussion between the NRPC and northern allies will continue to sign the bilateral agreement.

The delegation of Kachin Independence Army (KIA), which is one of four ethnic armed groups from the northern allies, left Laiza to go to Kengtong on August 29 and Maj-Gen Gwan Maw from the KIA wrote on his Facebook account on August 29 that he wished to help his partners to bring the best results.

The NRPC sent invitation letters to Kachin Independence Army (KIA), Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) and Arakan Army (AA) on August 28 to hold the meeting.

The NRPC and northern allies met at Muse on April 30 and Mongla on June 30 and both sides submitted the drafts of preliminary ceasefire agreements.

Fighting between the army and the TNLA, MNDAA and AA is occurred in northern Shan State. The army is also fighting with the AA in Rakhine State.
