NLD’s MP for Minkin Township constituency in Sagaing detained

Khin Hmway Lwin, a member of Sagaing Region National League for Democracy and elected regional parliamentary representative for Minkin Township constituency, was detained at about 11 pm on May 30 while she was in hiding, according to sources close to her. 

She was reportedly arrested at a house in the new town of Shwe Taung Oo, Yinmabin Township, west of the Chindwin River on the other side of Monywa town. 

“At about 11 pm last night, the house she was staying at was raided and she was arrested. We don’t know the details yet. We are still trying to get detailed information. She was arrested in Shwe Taung Oo to the west of the Chindwin river,” said a man close to the detainee on May 31. 

On May 20 also, MP Than Hlaing for Pinlebu Township constituency in Sagaing Region was arrested while he was hiding in the jungle near Kaingshay Village 20 miles from the township.   

Whereabouts of detained MP Khin Hmway Lwin is still unknown.
