The National League for Democracy will prioritize those who can perform well in politics in forming a new government and the inclusion of rich cronies is unlikely, said NLD’s Central Executive Committee member Dr Myo Nyunt.

“NLD Vice Chairman (2) Dr Zaw Myin Maung has already said those are politically qualified will be prioritized,” he said

A local journal reported in its December 15 issue that at least three rich cronies are likely to be in the new government as union ministers citing those close to the ruling party.

Some of the incumbent region/state chief ministers are due to be appointed as union ministers but they are reportedly willing to remain as they are. Meanwhile, some rich cronies have submitted letters expressing their willingness to become union ministers, the news story said.

“This is contrary to what he (Dr Zaw Myint Maung) has said. It’s impossible,” Dr Myo Nyunt said in response to the news.

He went on to say that some of the incumbent union ministers and regional chief ministers are likely to be included again in the new government but how much percentage could not be mentioned.

Dr Zaw Myint Maung told the media that intellectuals and intelligentsia including those who are loyal to the NLD, have political experience and are popular among the public will be appointed in the new government.

The NLD has recently formed a team to meet the ethnic parties.

Dr Myo Nyunt told the media on December 12 after the CEC meeting that his party’s plan to meet the ethnic parties is aimed at achieving consensus about a future Union style rather than the formation of a new administration.

He however said the party will consider if they come to present who should be included in the union and regional governments.

The NLD has formed a team to meet the ethnic parties after it sent a letter to 48 ethnic parties on November 12. The letter carries three paragraphs under the title of the union affairs to be envisioned for the future Myanmar. The NLD says in the letter that it will pay attention to the ethnic minorities in the future hoping they will actively participate in the effort to build a democratic federal union.

The team is composed of Dr Aung Moe Nyo, Nan Khin Htwe Myint and Hton Khar Naw Hsam.
