Myanmar Fisheries Federation (MFF) will establish Global Earth Public Co Ltd in order to export catfish (silonia childreni) as a major export item, said Win Kyaing, general secretary of MFF.

The project will be implemented in Pantanaw Township, Ayeyawady Region. Currently, 6 million catfish are being raised and a 1,000-acre farm is being dug for breeding more fish.

'Catfish will be farmed and we will export fish meat. In the project, 100 percent will be exported with the aim of earning foreign exchange. There will be many job opportunities," said Win Kyaing.

The project will include modern fish farms, feedstuff factory, cold storage factory and staffing housing. When the project comes into shape, Global Earth Public Co Ltd will invite shares.

"The company will be supervised by the Fisheries Federation. We are discussing with experts. When we invite shareholders, we want them to enjoy profits. It will take at least eight months to build a factory. Manufacturing will start in 2019. But the job has not finished yet as much as we have expected. I want to urge both experts and non-experts from the fishery industry to cooperate each other," said MMF vice chairperson Toe Nandar Tin.

The project tasks will be carried out in Pantanaw Township and the head office of Global Earth Public Co Ltd, which has been registered, will be in Yangon Region.

"As we have made a lot of decisions that we will be successful, we will not have difficulties but shareholders need to witness (the success). The project must be successful. We are not doing the job on paper. As we implement the project, we will invite shareholders," said Win Kyaing.

Myanmar exports fish, prawn and crab to over 40 countries including Thailand, China, Saudi Arabia and Japan. China is offering to import catfish from Myanmar.
