Myanmar has always supported and upheld China’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, said Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun, spokesperson for the National Defence and Security Council.
He made the remarks while responding to media questions regarding comments made by Japanese Prime Minister Mrs. Takaichi on the Taiwan issue.
“In line with the first point of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, Myanmar respects China’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, and has consistently supported the protection of these principles,” Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun stated.
He added that Myanmar had seen the Japanese Prime Minister’s recent comments on Taiwan in international media, and reaffirmed that the Myanmar government firmly adheres to the One China Policy.
Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun said, “Myanmar’s Acting President, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, has repeatedly reaffirmed Myanmar’s strong support for the One China Policy during every meeting with Chinese leaders.”
He further noted that China and Myanmar are close neighbours, good friends, and strategic partners building a shared future together—an important relationship that Myanmar values highly.
