A spokesperson from the ruling National League for Democracy said that the Myanmar people are not supporting the State Counsellor with their eyes closed over the ICJ case.

NLD spokesperson Dr Myo Nyunt was responding to a human rights activist who described supporters of the State Counsellor as Germans supporting Hitler that ordered to kill Jews, Polish and LGBT communities.

He said those countries supporting a lawsuit against Myanmar at the ICJ are trying to make sure that the international community pays greater attention to the issue by recounting the holocaust.

"Myanmar people have their own sense in relation to what is happening in the country. I want to say that they are not just supporting with their eyes closed," he responded.

These days, major cities across the country are holding rallies in support of State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, who in her role as Foreign Affairs Minister, is leading a Myanmar delegation confronting the case filed by Gambia on charges of genocide at the ICJ (International Court of Justice).

Tens of thousands of people in Yangon city held a rally in support of the State Counsellor in front of Maha Bandoola Park on December 10.

Mass rallies are being organized by NLD in cooperation with some religious and social organizations. Among those supporters at the rallies are region and state chief ministers, NLD central executive committee members and parliamentary representatives.
