Union Minister of Labour U Myint Naung while on his way to attend Asean-China forum on cooperation in Human Resources Development and Services which will be held in Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and China, met with Thailand Minister for Labour at the Suvarnabhumi international airport.

During the meeting they discussed signing an extension of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for bilateral cooperation in labor affairs, the implementation of sending new laborers under the MOU, as well as old laborers under the MOU U-turn system, issuing the Pink Card for temporary stay in Thailand, and plans for allowing Myanmar migrants with the Certificate of Identity.

According to the meeting held on July 5 by the Thai authority, migrant workers who are in the name list are permitted for extension of work and stay in Thailand. Therefore, foreign workers are temporarily allowed to stay and work from August 2023 to February 2025 according to the Myanmar Labour Attaché Office in Thailand.

Within these periods, employers need to apply for their workers for legally working in the country within 90 days. Children of migrant workers under 18 years are also allowed just like their parents while above 18 years are permitted to stay till 2025. If they desire to work, they have to apply, according to Thailand authority.

For MOU workers, Myanmar government agreed that who have worked 4 years and who will be 4 years working in Thailand, they have to leave Thailand and can enter after 30 days. But, if the workers have correct documents, they can enter and work in Thailand within one or two days according to the statement made by the Myanmar Labour Attaché Office in Thailand.
