More wards to supply oxygen for COVID-19 patients will be added not only in general hospitals but also in district hospitals as there are more patients who need to supply oxygen, said Professor Dr. Zaw Wai Soe, a vice chairman of Yangon's COVID-19 prevention, control and treatment committee.
The COVID-19 confirmed patients are giving treatment in wards 11 and 12 and special care units at Yangon General Hospital (YGH) and the authorities are prepared the main ward at the hospital to give treatment to the COVID-19 patients. If the east wing of the main ward is finished preparation works, the preparation work in wards 3/ 4, 9/ 10 and 15/ 16 in west wing will be continued.
“We are transforming the YGH as a 30-bed ICU and 300-bed HDU hospital and it will be finished within four or five-day time. Similarly, we are transforming western district hospital and eastern district hospital as 100-bed hospitals to provide oxygen treatment for COVID-19 patients. In the meantime, 40-bed to provide oxygen treatment for the patients is being installed at Jivitadana Sangha Hospital. There will be 200-bed to provide oxygen treatment for the patients being installed at North Oakkalapa hospital. Emergency wards are expanded for the patients to be more comfortable. We know that healthcare workers and patients faced difficulties to stay at the hospitals and we are dealing it as much as we can,” said the professor.
